What are the benefits of this smart water heating technology project to consumers?

The OSO smart water heaters will allow customers greater control and flexibility with their water heating.

Smart grid innovation like is being targeted in this pilot is all about increasing access to information and leveraging access to more data to drive efficiencies in the energy delivery system that will both have an environmental benefit as well drive cost savings.

Water heaters today typically account for 20 per cent of a home’s energy bill.

A smart water heater learns to optimize the energy and usage patterns to provide cost savings, convenience, comfort and safety benefits to customers.

The OSO smart water heaters and controllers allow customers to control their hot water heating through an app. Through the app, customers can see how much hot water they have left and other insights and functions. They can also activate a “holiday mode” to save energy while they are away.

They literally will have control of their water heaters in the palm of their hand. Just imagine, especially for those households with teenagers, being able to see how much hot water you have left and how long before it is topped up. Imagine never having a cold shower again!

Having smart water heaters in homes right across the city also helps reduce demand on the power grid, which curbs carbon emissions. Through this, customers will have a positive impact on the environment and help move us all toward a net-zero future.
